Saved By the Bell - tenthdoctor-allonsy

shewhodiedtwice:

Books. Keys. Last night’s marking. Clara hurried around the her living room, doing a quick double check to make sure she had everything that she needed as she headed out the door. Every Monday ended up like this, it just took some time to get out of weekend mode.

The headmaster was the first one to greet her as she entered the staff room in her usual rush. Bless him, he was lovely, if not a little creepy.

“Ahh, Clara, I trust you had a nice weekend.”

“Well, y’know… planning my summer holidays already,” she smiled back.

“Good, good! Now then, I’d like to come and meet our newest recruit, Mr Smith. You will be looking after him in his first couple weeks.”

He pointed over at the new teacher stood in the corner, chatting away casually as if he had been here for years. Clara walked up to him with a bright smile and an open palm.

“Hi, I’m Clara. You must be Mr Smith?”

This was a new experience. Well, he had been a teacher once; teaching wasn’t the difficult part here. But pretending to be a normal human could be tricky. For weeks he had been monitoring this school, an odd signal coming from the place. A signal he hadn’t gotten for centuries now, but yet the Time Lord wasn’t sure this was what he thought. Tracking the wrong signal got him in quite a lot of trouble a few times. Perhaps it was just a hair dryer interfering again, just like it’s used to happen with his screwdriver. Something is working on to fix.

But well, better safe than sorry. So there he wasn’t signing up as a new teacher, to investigate on his own. Bit like a detective, there’s been a while since he didn’t go on detective style. And the people who worked there seemed to be nice. Maybe this wasn’t going to be so complicated after all.

The headmaster had told him about the woman who was going to look after him during his first weeks. Clara Oswald. Shorter than he’d imagine, but her smile was quite comforting. The Doctor answered her with a bright smile of his own and shook her head vigorously.

“Yes, yes. But call me John. And you must me Miss Oswald, right? It’s very nice to meet you, I’m sure we’re gonna have a great time teaching all the kids, huh?” He kept shaking her hand as he spoke. “I’ve heard a little bit about you, Sam here was telling me that you know how to keep them quiet almost all the time. Something I might have to learn soon. How do you do it?”
